The Korean philosophy for skincare is very hydration-focused. That is why applying moisturizers is one of the key steps in Korean skincare routine. The main purposes of moisturizers are to add in hydration to the skin, to lock in all the active ingredients of skincare layered underneath, and to prevent Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL) - the amount of water that passively evaporates through skin to the external environment due to water vapor pressure gradient on both sides of the skin barrier and is used to characterize skin barrier function.
